There aren't enough stars on this site to leave this review! Our house was originally built in the 1940s for local paper mill workers and their families as part of a housing development project. Over time, many of these homes had a small, 1-car garage added to its structure as the post-WWII automotive industry grew. We purchased our house in 1999 as our first home, and for the next 20 years saved up to tear off the 1-car garage, build a modern 2-car garage, add a patio or deck, and update the original exterior boards with vinyl siding.
Davis Enterprises was our third contractor. Our first contractor was an out-of-area con artist who left us and several other local homeowners with half-finished projects and scammed out of tens of thousands of dollars -- with some clients losing hundreds of thousands -- plus litigation costs that will never be recovered. Our second contractor kept our $15,000 down payment for building supplies for himself and is now part of a multi-county fraud investigation.
For two years, the exterior of our house was nothing more than bare boards and Tyvek as we worked through the devastation of what had been done to our savings and our dream. It is not an exaggeration when we say that Davis Enterprises in Tomahawk worked a miracle for us and for our home.
When we met with Hunter Davis this past winter to finish our project, we were skeptical and scared because of what we’d been through. With incredible compassion, he cultivated a relationship with us built on trust and kindness just by being himself. In his initial walkthrough, he noticed an issue on our roof from the previous contractors. At that time, we hired him to fix the roof, and in doing so, he noticed a leak caused by the roof issue that we were unaware of. So that we were not left with any more damage, he kindly set up one of his commercial fans in the attic to dry it out for us before it became worse.
Hunter stayed in frequent contact with us over the next several months while he worked on previously-scheduled projects of his own. But one call from Hunter at the beginning of July changed everything for us.
Hunter hadn't forgotten about what we experienced with our previous contractors and tried to squeeze our project into Davis Enterprises’ already busy schedule. Seeing a break in that schedule, Hunter reached out again to let us know he could get our project done for us. Once we had a third loan secured to complete the work, our entire project was completed by Hunter and his team in ONE WEEK.
In that one week, Davis Enterprises beautifully fixed and finished our half-built deck, installed siding, trim, and gutters, and built landings and entrance steps for all of our exterior doors. After being rained out on a Saturday, a 9-person crew arrived at our house on Sunday morning and had siding installed in 4 HOURS! Even his team’s clean up was noteworthy: hardly a scrap, drainage rock, or stray nail could be seen in the yard at the end of each work day. They even pressure-washed the house, deck, driveway, and sidewalks before wrapping up.
Hunter checked in with us every step of the way, and we felt supported and cared for as people, not just as clients. We cannot begin to recount the thousands of tiny kindnesses extended to us from Hunter himself before, during, and after our project. Hunter’s acumen as a business owner and as a good human can not only be seen in the quality of his and his team’s work but also in the respectful way his team speaks about him when he is not around. His team genuinely loves what they do and who they work for. As a result, we felt genuinely cared for throughout our experience.
Hunter Davis (and Davis Enterprises) deserves every accolade we could ever give him, and we will always highly recommend him and his team to other homeowners. Congratulations to this young man on what will certainly be a very long and very successful career. Finally, a thankful shout-out to his family for raising a kind, caring, and hard-working man.
